Tolerance is a spiritual quality or a mental attitude that enables a man to be tolerant and accommodating. It requires imaginative understanding of other people and helps a man to put himself at the place of others and to think from their point of view. Ultimately, he becomes considerate to the needs and views of others and learns to put up with those who are objectionable to him in anyway.
The politicians, economists and spiritualists have their own plans for the peace, progress and development of a society, but the only solution of all the problems is psychological not political or economic. If the healthy attitude of mind is not created in people, all the efforts to set the house in order will be useless. We usually criticize others of being extremists, but don't want to peep into our own self to know whether we are suffering from the same drawback. In this age of development nations and countries are dependent on each other and cannot exist without the support of each other.
Fanaticism is the chief hinderenc in observing tolerance. A fantastic man loves his creed so much that he is even ready to die for the triumph and glory of his religion or political beliefs. He is narrow-minded and does not recognize the rights of his opponents to live and think freely. Ultimately, it gives rise to hatred, enmity and conflicts and shatters the sound basis of civilized living and peace in a society. It may be social,political or religious fanaticism. It's found in developing as well as in developed nations.
In Europe, white skinned people entertain deep seated hatred against black colored people.they are not ready to give them equal rights and don't like to mix up with them. The recent nuder of George Floyd is an eye opening incident of racial rapidity. The ruthless killing of German Jews by Hitler was also the result of religious radicalism.
Pakistani society is also affected badly by extremism. Indeed, the Muslims of subcontinent make sacrifices only to get rid of social, political and racial discrimination, but the same practices are being practiced now in Pakistan. In spite of being Muslims, we are divided into sunis, shias,wahabis and baralvis. We are also divided into upper and lower castes and don't like to inter- dined with them at the same table. These religious sects of the same religion are at daggers drawn with each other. They force their opponents to believe as they deem fit, otherwise to get ready for being swiped out.
Besides religious bigotry, there's also political dogmatism. Difference of opinion on political issues is not appreciated. The politicians are often branded as anti Pakistan elements or the agents of enemies. People are forced to caste their votes in favor of some influential persons.
There is great need of democratic and national out-look, which is necessary for the success of democracy and the authorization of Muslim ummah. The country belongs to all of us and every body is free to live and think freely as he deems fit. It's impossible to make the population of a society has same belief, opinion and standard of judgement. If people of this age refuse to adopt tolerating attitude, the human civilization may take a reverse turn and put them in the state of jungle life.
